Volunteer for a Home Building Project!

Habitat for Humanity of Berks County relies on the volunteer support of businesses, individuals, civic and faith groups to help make the dream of homeownership a possibility for very low-income families in Berks County.

Volunteer opportunities are also available in the ReStore, the office and the Habitat Woodshop.

You can become part of this network of people who can proudly say, “I Helped Built It!”  Start today!

Guidelines for Volunteer Groups or Individuals:

Please contact Erin Maguire by email at emaguire@habitatberks.org or by phone at 610-373-3439 to schedule your group, or check availability for individuals.

Groups should include a maximum of 16 people on site.  Groups of 12 usually seem to work best.  We schedule groups according to their size, and rely on the number of volunteers who sign up to be present on their scheduled day.  Please try to arrange for substitutes when necessary.  If you group will be bringing more or less volunteers than signed up, please contact Erin as early as possible so we can make the appropriate arrangements.

Volunteers should wear substantial shoes or boots, and clothing which you won’t mind tearing or staining.  Bringing work gloves is strongly encouraged.  Hard hats, safety goggles and other safety equipment will be provided.  We work in all kinds of weather, so please dress appropriately.

Please plan to pack a lunch and beverage.  We encourage groups to bring water or other beverages, especially in hot weather.

Please make sure each volunteer in your group signs both the sign-in sheet and waiver before working.  These forms will be given at the jobsite.

All jobsite volunteers must be at least 16 years old.  Volunteers younger than 18 may not use any power tools.

Please arrive on the jobsite by 8:45 a.m. so we can get everyone started together.  Please expect to be working until 2:00 p.m., unless you have scheduled a half day.  Our current workdays are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Bathroom facilities will be available.

Habitat for Humanity of Berks County relies on contributions from the community, along with volunteers, to make possible the creation of safe, affordable homes for Habitat partner families.  Construction and materials costs alone generally exceed $85,000 on a new construction project, meaning that, on average, we spend over $1,000 each work day on materials.  If you group is able to help defray the cost of materials you will be using, please consider making a donation as part of your volunteer contribution.

Checks may be made payable to:
