With your help, another family can escape poverty housing!

Make more than a donation; make a decent place to live a possibility for another family this year!

Unwilling to accept the fact that hundreds of families in our community live without adequate shelter, Habitat for Humanity challenges and invites you to join in partnership with people who are living in inadequate housing to improve their living conditions.

Children need stability, permanence, support, safety and compassion in their lives; made possible by generous people in the community who give when they can.  A gift will reach into the future by helping change the lives of generations to come.

The houses are built with no profit added and no interest charged; however, Habitat for Humanity requires its families to pay the full cost of their home. Before construction begins, Habitat needs to raise the money in the community.  Payments made by the new homeowners are then “recycled” to build more homes in our community and support local families over and over again.

Please know that your generous support will provide the necessary resources to help Berks County thrive and ease the housing problems of less fortunate citizens, while at the same time providing shelter for a family in a developing part of the world.  For each home Reading-Berks Habitat for Humanity builds in our community, we send a “tithe” payment to Habitat for Humanity International, which funds a home in a developing country.  In this way, your support not only helps create a better Berks County, but a better world as well!

Donate by credit card safely using PayPal by clicking “Donate Now” or mail your check payable to Reading-Berks Habitat for Humanity, 336 S. 18th Street, Reading, PA  19602.

Construction Project

Reading-Berks Habitat for Humanity is a 501(c)(3) ecumenical Christian charitable organization which exists to create affordable homeownership opportunities with and for low-income families.   Families who purchase Habitat for Humanity homes must first contribute 400 hours construction labor on a Habitat home, a contribution we call “sweat-equity.”  Homes are sold to the families at no profit, and financed by Reading-Berks Habitat for Humanity with zero-interest mortgages.  The payments made by the families on their mortgages are then used to build more homes in our community.  We rely on volunteers and families contributing sweat-equity for the “un-skilled” labor needed to build the homes.  Working in this way, we believe we provide families a “hand-up” rather than a “hand-out,” while also providing a way for good people to assist hard-working families in our community.
