2008 Promises to be a Banner Year with the Construction of Six Homes!

May 5 May 6
May 15 June 1

Families and volunteers from Reading-Berks Habitat for Humanity will begin construction on six homes in the Glenside neighborhood:

  • 1129, 1131, & 1133 Luzerne Street in Reading is part of the Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity program.
  • 1135 Luzerne Street is sponsored by Carpenter Technology.
  • Mongomery Street home is sponsored by the UCC of Berks County.
  • The 6th home will also be constructed on Montgomery Street (sponsorship still available).

It is truely empowering to see the first-hand transformation of garbage-strewn lots and dilapidated houses turn into new beautiful homes. Our volunteers and sponsors build miracles everyday. These miracles unfold as hundreds of volunteers are hammering nails side-by-side with our Habitat familiers who are trying to build a better life for their children.

Over the last year we have shortened the time it takes to build a home from 14 months to 8. While many of our Habitat homes appraise at nearly $120,000, we are able to build the home for much less than that amount. All of this helps us build more homes for those in need. If a family decides to sell their Habitat home within 15 years, RBHFH has the right to purchase the home back from the partner family at the original sale price and re-sell to another family.

Our work with deserving families is made possible by the remarkable generosity of special individuals and organizations in Berks County.  Thank you so much for your support.
