Can You Help Build?

Guidelines for Volunteer Groups and Individuals:
- Please contact Donna Crossland via email at dcrossland@rbhabitat.org or by phone at 610-373-3439 to schedule your group or to check availability for individuals.
- Groups should include a maximum of 16 people on site. Groups of 12 generally seem to work best. We schedule groups according to their size, and rely on the number of volunteers who sign-up to be present on their scheduled day. Please try to arrange for substitutes when necessary. If your group will be bringing more or less volunteers than signed up, please contact Donna as early as possible so that we can make the appropriate arrangements.
- Volunteers should wear substantial shoes or boots, and clothing which you won’t mind tearing or staining. Bring work gloves. Bringing hard hats, safety goggles and other safety equipment is strongly encouraged. We work in all kinds of weather, so please dress appropriately.
- Unless we have informed you otherwise, please plan to pack a lunch. We encourage groups to bring water or other beverages, especially in hot weather.
- Please make sure that each volunteer in your group signs both the sign-in sheet and a waiver before working. These forms will be given at the jobsite.
- All jobsite volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers younger than 18 may not use any power tools.
- Please arrive on the jobsite by 8:45 am so we can get everyone started together. Please expect to be working until 2:00, unless you have scheduled for a ½ day. Our current workdays are
Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
- Bathroom facilities will be available.
- Reading-Berks Habitat for Humanity relies on contributions from the community, along with volunteers, to make possible the creation of safe, affordable homes for Habitat partner families. Construction and materials costs alone generally exceed $85,000 on a new construction project, meaning that, on average, we spend over $1000 each work day on materials. If your group is able to help defray the cost of the materials you will be using, please consider making a donation as part of your volunteer contribution. Checks may be made to:
Reading-Berks Habitat for Humanity
336 South 18th Street
Reading, PA 19602
Credit Card or PayPal donations may be made via the "PayPal" button on this website.
- Bernie Amos, our Construction Manager, looks forward to making your volunteer experience as enjoyable and productive as possible. Feel free to give Bernie a call before you come out to the jobsite at 484-332-0878.
